No 1 Requirement

Hello,

Well, as this is my first article on my new website “Enjoying a Happier Life”
I thought I’d start with THE No1 requirement for a happier life –

DO WHAT YOU LOVE.

But in this busy world of responsibilities and pressures how do we

a) Find what we truly love?

b) Integrate what we truly love into our daily lives.

Well, unless you have already established the things you truly love an effective way to do this is to identify and clarify your TRUE VALUES.

The values that are the very essence of you, those that you truly, deeply believe in.

They are also things that you enjoy doing and find completely fulfilling.

So, when you are able to sit quietly, undisturbed and let your mind flow begin making a list of your true values.

Here are some examples although there are many, many more.

Please be kind to yourself and take your time, this may take a while.

I suggest you keep a pen and paper handy, also at night, so that you can write things down as they pop in to your head –

Honesty
Integrity
Compassion
Caring
Sharing
Contribution

Love
Beauty
Serenity
Nature
Excitement
Fulfillment

Comfort
Peace of mind
Certainty
Challenge
Growth
Faith/Spirituality

Diet
Exercise
Sport
The Outdoors
Recreation
Fun

When you have completed your list, possibly around 20 to 30, identify the PIVOTAL VALUES – the ones that include and embrace other values. Eg HONESTY might include truth.

Aim for 4 to 6 pivotal values which then become your CORE VALUES.

Now prioritise your core values and list them with the most important first.

Then, gradually, begin exploring ways to integrate your core values into your daily life.

This is where I can help you if you like.

In relationships it can be very helpful to distill a hierarchy of joint values.

A word of caution – whilst doing this be sure to maintain your financial security.

This process takes time, effort and patience – but your new, happier life will be well worth it.

There’s so much more we can do to help you enjoy a happier life.
